Rooted in the visual and symbolic foundation established by Pamela Colman Smith and Arthur Edward Waite, the deck does not seek to replace the Rider–Waite–Smith tradition, but to return attention to its structure, atmosphere, and psychological depth.

Developed over five years through drawing, painting, material experimentation, layered image construction, and contemporary digital processes, each card emerged through sustained attention and revision rather than automation or imitation.

This is not reinvention, but restitution — a conversation between artists across time, held in image.

The Tribute Tarot is a complete working deck — presented here in its first physical release as the Wounded Tarot. This is a limited run of 78 altered decks, alongside individual cards drawn and sent outward as part of an ongoing mapping project. The deck can be explored, collected, or read — each path offering a different way into the work, depending on how it is approached.

Sand Laurenson’s work lies at the meeting point of art, craft, and psychological inquiry. Trained in conceptual art at the Royal Academy in London, this project returns to traditional methods, using them with precision rather than nostalgia.

The Tribute Tarot represents five years of work, a body of images shaped by discipline, revision, and sustained attention.

The making of this deck unfolded slowly through drawing, revision, and study. Each card passed through long cycles of adjustment, where symbolism, proportion, and structure were refined by hand. This section traces that process, the quiet labour behind the images and the decisions that shaped their final form. It reveals how patience, error, and persistence gradually formed a coherent symbolic language.
